Light
Form and Order

The idea in this project was to look at how buildings can manipulate natural lighting. When light is in a building, it will be controlled using very different methods. Some methods include the use of backlights, reflector shields, and/or light cannons. Curved structures allows lighting to create unique light splashes and patterns.

The Light going into the Riola Parish Church's interior chapel has the northern light diffused through vertical, asymmetrical ribs, which create a majestic grid of soft light which projects down onto the worshipper. The presence of light brilliantly transcends the occupier into a holy state. While I didn't integrate it to the assignment, it was something I looked into so I can create ideas.
Site Selection

I chose this location for my site because there was a lot more light that would help the chapel feel for sacred. It also allows students to have some time away from doing academic work. While there isn't a lot of light within the chapels, it allows for students find some peace and quiet away from stressful papers and assignments. Most of the lighting would go to the main chapel and meditation during the day, and during the afternoon, there will be more lighting in the memorial chapel.
One the main things that I need to be careful of when designing the chapel was how it affect the location in the campus and how the campus was affect. The lighting comes from the East and moves west and stays on the south side. The best thing it did was create a shadow. When I looked into map, I noted that it wasn't on top of any roads or sidewalks and it was on the side. That wouldn't really change up the circulation but I wasn't really affected by the hierarchy either due to its location.
